Maine
is creating a new future for itself. In the
last few years, Maine has emphasized advancing its traditional
industries to the 21st century, while nurturing new
technology and creative industries. Maine has identified
seven sectors to focus on for growth: advanced technologies
for agriculture and forestry, aquaculture and marine
sciences, biotechnology, composite materials, environmental
technologies, information technology, and precision
manufacturing.
To support this growth,
the state has made significant investments in research
and development and programs that support entrepreneurs.
These programs range from seed capital to business incubation.
The University of Maine
has been a leader in this effort, having helped create
more than ten new technology businesses in the last
two years and assisting other entrepreneurs through
R&D support and the services of its affiliated business
incubators.
