Invest in or Mentor a Start-Up Company

With the growth of research and development in Maine and the emphasis on commercializing new technologies through entrepreneurial companies, the number of technology start-ups has grown significantly along with the need for capital investment and mentoring from industry experts.

The University of Maine has focused on turning new technologies from its labs into commercial products by supporting entrepreneurial faculty and students through its Target Technology Incubator, aquaculture and composite incubators. To help students create their own future in Maine, UMaine is creating an Innovation Center, which will provide entrepreneurship courses and incubator space for student start-up companies.

The Maine Technology Institute has developed a mentor network for companies that have received its grants to commercialize new technologies. Maine Tech Trackers is a group of experienced entrepreneurs and industry experts who help businesses overcome specific challenges and make better decisions.

Potential investors can also find opportunities through the Maine Investment Exchange. At its MIX forums, entrepreneurs and companies present their ideas and business plans to an audience of investors.
