Barbara Madelyn Currier Alward,
86, from Cape Elizabeth, Maine, on October 17, 2007. B.S. in education. She
was employed as a physical therapist for over 40 years. She began her career
working with disabled children in the Boston area. In 1954 she joined the
Cumberland County Cerebral Palsy Center in Portland, Maine, and trained and
taught in her profession for many years, retiring from the Jewish Home for
the Aged in 1985. She enjoyed swimming, playing the saxophone, animals, and
the Celtics. She was a member of St. Bartholomew’s Catholic Church in Cape
Elizabeth. She is survived by four daughters, 10 grandchildren, and eight
great-grandchildren.
Geraldine Lincoln Creamer,
80, of Yarmouth and Waldoboro, on December 4, 2007. M.Ed. She taught second
grade for 26 years, and raised four children in Yarmouth. Upon retirement,
she spent time at the family farm in Waldoboro and at their camp on
Damariscotta Lake. An avid history and genealogy buff, she enjoyed exploring
abandoned back roads. She was an outstanding cook. In retirement, she
belonged to the Waldoboro Women’s Club, Waldoboro Historical Society,
Lincoln County Retired Teachers Association, and other local groups.
Survivors include her husband of 58 years, four children, and a special
niece, Judy Payson Schwab ’64.

Clarence Edward Merryfield,
89, of Waterville, Maine, on September 24, 2007. M.Ed. He was a veteran of
World War II serving in the Army from 1940, in the South Pacific, until his
retirement from the Army Reserves as a captain. He farmed and taught school
in Maine for 21 years, retiring in 1978. He was a life member of the Retired
Officers Association, National Education Association, and a member of the
First Church of Christ Scientist Boston and the Christian Science Society in
Waterville. He is survived by one son, two grandsons, and four
great-grandchildren.
Robert Paul Tremblay,
75, from Dexter, Maine, on November 6, 2007. M.Ed. He was a veteran of the
Korean War serving in the Army. He began his teaching career in Port Clyde
and Tenants Harbor and later taught business at Bangor High School. After
receiving his master’s degree he served as the school’s guidance counselor
until his retirement in 1987. He was a member of St. Anne’s Catholic Church
and was a longtime member of the choir. He was a member of the Knights of
Columbus, American Legion, Retired Teachers Association, and past board
member of the Dover-Foxcroft YMCA. He enjoyed art, was an accomplished
artist, and enjoyed traveling around the world. He is survived by one
brother.

John William McEwen II,
57, formerly of Brewer, died in Lewiston on December 6, 2007. B.S. in
business administration. He worked in sales for R.J. Reynolds Tobacco
Company. He lived on Sebago Lake for 20 years, and enjoyed boating, spending
time on the beach, and skating in the winter. He is survived by two
daughters including Margo McEwen Peffer ’00 and a grandson.

Richard “Rick” Samuel Greene III,
61, from Knoxville, Tennessee, died on June 29, 2007, from complications of
multiple sclerosis. B.A. in psychology, M.Ed. in 1975, served as freshman
football manager, a resident assistant, a Big Brother, a broadcaster for
WMEB-FM, and played intramural sports. He was a veteran of the Army serving
as a medic in the Army National Guard and Air Force National Guard. His
career included the U.S. Department of Labor, U.S. letter carrier, and
Tennessee Valley Authority human relations training officer. He was an usher
and member of the West Knoxville Baptist Church and in 1987 was recognized
as Father of the Year. He enjoyed the Redskins, cooking, and traveling. He
is survived by his wife of 35 years, Alice Greene ’74G, and three children.
Paul Lester Wedge,
59, of Houston, Texas, on July 26, 2007. B.S. in business administration. He
served as a medical specialist during the Vietnam War and was awarded medals
and commendations. He worked for 40 years in accounting and for the Easter
Seal Society in Florida before retiring to Houston. He enjoyed sport fishing
for dolphins. Survivors include his wife, two daughters, and two sisters.

James Merrill Kimball,
58, from Orrington, Maine, on November 30, 2007. B.A. in public management.
He was employed in the banking industry and for many years he volunteered at
St. Joseph Hospital and East Orrington Congregational Church. He is survived
by his wife, two children including Lisa Kimball ’92, two grandchildren, one
stepdaughter, and two siblings including John ’75.
Janice “Jan” Grant Kwiatkowsky,
62, from Glenburn, Maine, on December 13, 2007. B.A. in political science
and M.Ed. in ’03. She taught at Bucksport High School. She enjoyed lobster,
NASCAR, the Red Sox, New England Patriots, and the New England Revolution.
She is survived by two sons including Brock ’88 and two grandchildren.
Darrell Clinton Lehto,
57, from Millinocket and South Thomaston, Maine, died on September 26, 2007,
from cancer. He attended in the late 1960s studying civil engineering and
later accounting, and was a member of Beta Theta Pi fraternity. He moved to
Millinocket in 1973 and began employment with Great Northern Paper where he
remained until the mill shut down in 2002. He enjoyed camping, fishing, and
hunting. He is survived by a step daughter and two grandchildren.

Christopher Mark Harris,
58, from Waterville, Maine, on November 7, 2007. Attended in the mid-1970s.
He joined the Marine Corps in 1968 and was a veteran of Vietnam. He received
a Purple Heart and Combat Action Ribbon. He was employed for a number of
years with Georgia Pacific. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and spending time
at his camp. He is survived by his wife, two stepchildren, and four
grandchildren.
David Scott Trank,
53, from North Muskegon, Michigan, on August 24, 2007. B.S. in chemistry,
M.S. in chemistry in 1982. He was employed with Sappi for 35 years, most
recently as chief engineer. He was a member of St. Gregory’s Episcopal
Church, the National Society of Professional Engineers, Michigan Society of
Professional Engineers, and the Muskegon Yacht Club. He is survived by his
wife and two children.

Walter “Reddy” Herbert Foster III,
62, from Jaffrey, New Hampshire, on October 23, 2007. B.S. in
mechanical engineering. He was a veteran of the Army serving from 1964 until
1969. After graduation he obtained his M.S. in mechanical engineering from
Worcester Polytechnic. He began employment as a janitor in 1969 at General
Electric and worked his way up the company ladder to become a sales manager
and development manager. He worked for GE for 25 years in Maine,
Massachusetts, and New York, and after he was laid off he started a
consulting company, Foster Power Generation, which became a multi-million
dollar business that extends around the world. In 2005 he was awarded the
University of Maine School of Engineering Francis Crowe Award. He is
survived by his son Walter ’93, one grandson, and four siblings including
Katherine Foster Dall ’66.
Norman “Bim” Ouellette,
51, from Fort Kent, Maine, died in a boating accident on November 11, 2007.
B.A. in public administration. He was the owner/operator of Quigley’s
Building Supply in Fort Kent. He was active in his community, serving on the
board of trustees of Northern Maine Medical Center, the University of Maine
at Fort Kent board of visitors, and past president of the Fort Kent Chamber
of Commerce and Fort Kent Rotary. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, canoeing, and
playing cards. He is survived by his wife, Karen Quigley Ouellette ’78, and
two daughters.

Brent A. Leavitt,
55, on August 7, 2007, in Shapleigh, Maine. B.A. in English. He served in
the U.S. Naval Security Group in Puerto Rico and Iceland. He worked in
construction for 29 years. Survivors include his wife of 30 years and son.
John William Pariza,
58, from Seabrook, New Hampshire, died on March 27, 2007, from an
intercranial hemorrage. B.S. in education.

Sylvia Viles Lund,
75, from Augusta, Maine, on September 18, 2007. M.S. in public
administration. She was a member of the Maine House of Representatives and
an at-large member of the Augusta City Council. She also served on the
Augusta school board, the State Board of Education, and as the director of
the state’s Office of Alcohol and Drug Abuse prevention. In 2001 she was
honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Kennebec Valley Chamber
of Commerce for her outstanding community leadership and dedication to the
health and welfare of people in her community. She was an active member of
St. Mark’s Episcopal Church for many years. She is survived by six children
and eight grandchildren. |
