Class of
1957 Class Project
Breakdown of
$175,000 Fundraising Goal For the Class of 1957
$100,000 for renovations to
Colvin Hall
Colvin Hall is home to the Honors College
(previously the Honors Program). Established in 2002, the Honors College
provides an academic home to some 700 students. The Class of 1957
established a relationship with the Honors College in 2002 when we made a
gift of $25,000 in honor of our 45th reunion to name one of the two double
rooms on the 2nd floor. Attractive naming opportunities remain at the
$100,000 level. Individuals who make a gift of $1,000 or more will have
their name appear on the donor recognition wall in Colvin Hall. The total
cost of the renovation is approximately $2 million with almost half of that
having been raised (and spent - the renovations are being done as monies
become available).
$50,000 for Buchanan Alumni
House

The Buchanan Alumni House opened its doors in
May of 2002 and is home to both the Alumni Association and the University of
Maine Foundation. The house receives thousands of visitors a year for a wide
variety of events and activities. In addition, all campus tours for
prospective students and their families originate from the Visitors’ Center
located at Buchanan Alumni House. The Class of 1957 established a
relationship with the Buchanan Alumni House in 1997 when we made a gift of
$25,000 in honor of our 40th reunion to name an office in the fundraising
suite. A portion of the proposed gift (approx. $20,000) will be used to
purchase high quality china place settings to be used for events at the
Buchanan Alumni House. We have estimated that 200 three-piece settings will
cost $125 per setting. The remaining portion of the gift (approx. $30,000)
will go towards the Buchanan Alumni House Endowment. The endowment campaign
is designed for the maintenance and upkeep of this magnificent facility. The
4 million dollar campaign is at 98% of goal. Individuals who make a gift of
$5,000 or more will have their name appear on the Endowment Recognition wall
in Buchanan Alumni House.
$25,000 for Senior Alumni
Scholarships
All UMaine alumni who have passed their 50th
reunion become members of Senior
Alumni. This does not mean you are no longer a part of the class…you are
part of both. Traditionally, the entering 50th class makes a gift to Senior
Alumni in support of scholarships. The Senior Alumni provide approximately
$80,000 a year in scholarships to some 45 traditional and non-traditional
students.
How to make a gift
There are a variety of ways you can make a
gift - cash, a pledge over five years, appreciated stock, art work, real
estate, or through a deferred gift (i.e. gift annuity, charitable remainder
